Conversions NP241 Slip Yoke Eliminator kits
Realizing
that our Doubler kit isn't the transfer case answer for all
4wd's, we've started carrying the JB Conversions slip yoke
eliminator kit for the NP241. The 241 evolved from the
NP208 in 1989 and is still in use today. It's a relatively
durable chain drive case with a 2.7:1 planetary gear reduction
and aluminum case. While it's not super burly like the
205, the 241 is adequate for trail ride vehicles with 35-37"
tires, depending on your specific vehicle, driving habits, etc.
The one
really weak point of the NP241 is the slip yoke type rear
output. It increases the overall length of the case, eats
seals, can contribute to driveline vibrations as the output
bushing wears out, and if you have rear driveshaft damage, it
can leak all your t-case fluid out on the trail. The fix
is the slip yoke eliminator or "SYE" kit. This kit provides a 32
spline fixed output that you can bolt any one of a number of
yokes directly to.
The standard
SYE kit reduces the overall length of the 241 by 5-6" and the
new Super Short SYE kit reduces the length of the unit by 9"
overall. This puts the 241 in the same length catagory as
a 205! The 241 is now an attractive option for short
wheelbase vehicles.
The standard
241 SYE kits work on any GM 241, either right or left hand front
drive in GM or Dodge trucks except the Dodge HD version.
The super short SYE is only available for LH 241's, if you have
a RH 241, you have to use the standard length kit.
